Improve your health by using a Fitness Coach
Some people are simply not motivated to get into better physical shape, and there is nothing wrong with that. Most of us have at least a basic understanding that physical fitness can not only make you feel better about yourself, but can also mean a longer, healthier life. There are also people that are afraid to start exercising. Perhaps they are afraid that they might injure themselves, perhaps they are afraid that their lack of knowledge would make them look ‘foolish’, perhaps they just do not have the right motivation to go by themselves. One of the benefits of using a fitness coach is that you eliminate these problems, they function as a motivator, coach, and educator all rolled into one. These are just a handful of the benefits of using a fitness coach.
Get started
For most people, this is what is holding them back. The motivation may be there (somewhere) but they are unaware of how to get started. If you have no idea of what your body can handle, what you could do, this is the part where you sit down with a fitness coach and discuss your previous experiences, your goals, and what you are used to doing physically. From there, they can help you determine a specific exercise routine that takes your abilities and experience into consideration. This way you know you are not overexerting yourself.
The right technique and form
If you are not used to exercising, chances are that you may not perform an exercise correctly. There are a number of reasons that it is important to have good form when performing an exercise:
- Injury – The last thing you want to do is injure yourself when you are getting in the swing of exercising. When you are not actively controlling the exercise and just not sure if you are doing it right, you increase the likelihood of injuring yourself.
- Effectiveness – When you do an exercise the ‘right’ way, you ensure that you get the most benefit out of it. For example, when some people do a bicep curl with a dumbbell, they swing their arm back and forth. Instead of isolating the bicep (the muscle they are trying to train) they are actively hurting their back and shoulder. The bicep muscle does not get the training it needs, and the person training experiences discomfort early on in their training session. Why waste your time with something that does not help you?
Motivation
What is your goal? Ultimately, why would you want to start training to get in better shape / physical condition? It does not matter if you want to lose a great deal of weight to start a new life, if you want to become more active, if you want to lose a few vanity pounds. One of the benefits of using a fitness coach is that they can provide you with the motivation to get up and increase your fitness level. How easy is it to avoid going to gym when there is no one there to motivate you? Now imagine if someone were waiting for you, expecting to train with you and get you going – all of a sudden, “I don’t really feel like it” does not seem like a viable excuse anymore. Because you get better at exercising with a fitness coach, most people notice that they get more enjoyment out of their fitness routine. There is something rewarding about getting better at something.
Finding the right fitness coach
One of the most important aspects of a good fitness coach is that they are right for you. Just because a trainer is perfect for one person does not mean that they are necessarily right for you. So how do you find out which fitness coach is the one that fits your needs?
- Try them out – The thing is that you need someone that meshes well with you. It is about more than whether they know their stuff or not. Their personality needs to fit with yours. Some people like their fitness coach to be active and ‘in their face’ to get motivated, others just prefer an instructor that is going to be relaxed and slowly explains everything that you could do. If you look for the style that best suits your personality and needs, you are much more likely to keep at it when it comes to continuously wanting to work out.
- Ask yourself how they teach – One of the most important things is that a fitness coach is focused on you. The same exercises that work for you may not work for someone who has a sore or injured shoulder, a fitness coach needs to realize this. You do not just want someone that leads you from one machine to the next, you want someone who is with you and guides you through the exercises. Someone who explains to you why you are doing what you are doing. Because ultimately, you would like to know how to do these exercises on your own.
